Social Media Guide to Mental Health Week 2025

NonprofitMarketing

Each year, Mental Health Week is an opportunity for Canadians to come together in support of mental health and well-being.

Taking place from May 5–11, 2025, this national campaign, led by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), encourages open, stigma-free conversations about mental health.

Why the 2025 Theme Matters: Unmasking Mental Health

This year’s theme, Unmasking Mental Health, shines a light on the invisible struggles many people face.

Too often, individuals feel they need to hide their emotions, masking their anxiety, depression, or burnout to avoid judgment or misunderstanding.

By joining this movement, your organization can help reduce stigma, strengthen community, and show that vulnerability is not weakness, it’s courage. You’ll also demonstrate your organization’s ongoing commitment to mental health support in Canada.

Why this Matters for Nonprofits

As a nonprofit, your voice is trusted. You play a vital role in:

  • Reducing stigma through education
  • Building safe, supportive online communities
  • Amplifying stories of healing, courage, and connection

When you show up during Mental Health Week, you affirm your commitment to mental well-being in Canada, and you help create real impact.

A Ready-to-Use Social Media Plan (May 5–11, 2025)

Use this daily content plan to guide your posts and increase engagement. Each day is built around the national theme and designed to spark connection, support, and engagement online:

Monday, May 5: Acknowledge the Week and Your Commitment

  • Goal: Show your support and kick off the week with purpose.
  • Sample caption: “It’s Mental Health Week in Canada, and we’re committed to #UnmaskMentalHealth. Let’s break stigma, embrace vulnerability, and support one another in being seen for who we really are.”

Tuesday, May 6: Talk About the Mask

  • Goal: Explain what “masking” means and how it affects people.
  • Sample caption: Many people feel they need to hide their struggles to avoid judgment. This week, we’re unmasking those experiences, and reminding our community they’re not alone.”

Wednesday, May 7: Share a Story or Insight

  • Goal: Post a personal story or message of courage.
  • Post Idea: Share a quote card, a short video, or a real-life insight from someone in your organization or community.

Thursday, May 8: Share Resources for Support

  • Goal: Point your audience toward accessible mental health support.
  • Sample caption: Unmasking is brave, but you don’t have to do it alone. Here are some trusted mental health resources available in [your province/city] and across Canada.”

Friday, May 9: Celebrate Your Community

  • Goal: Thank your audience for participating.
  • Sample caption: “Thank you for unmasking mental health with us this week. Every story, comment, and share helps create a stronger, more compassionate community.”

Practical Engagement Tips

  • Use the official hashtag: #UnmaskMentalHealth
  • Encourage your team and supporters to comment and reshare
  • Use readable text overlays on all images
  • Post once per day (or focus on Mon/Wed/Fri if time is limited)

Suggested Visuals & Image Ideas

You don’t need a design team to make strong visuals. Tools like Canva or Adobe Express are perfect for quick, branded content.

Try these simple graphic ideas:

  • Quote cards with simple backgrounds
  • Portraits or silhouettes with transparent “mask” overlays
  • Photos of your team or community showing authenticity and connection

Keeping the Conversation Going

Mental Health Week may last seven days, but your nonprofit’s voice can make an impact year-round.

By showing up consistently with compassion, clarity, and courage, you normalize vulnerability, create safer digital spaces and build stronger, healthier communities.

This May, let’s unmask mental health together.
